Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – GOST® (Global Ocean Security Technologies), a world leader in marine security, tracking, monitoring and video surveillance systems, announced today that in partnership with technology provider ORBCOMM its GOST Nav-Tracker 1.0 and Kasper tracking systems were selected by Team Seneca Navy. GOST’s tracking systems will be used by shore-side support to monitor the progress of the team as they row across the Atlantic in their bid to win the 2025 World’s Toughest Row and raise $500,000 for partner charities. This venture is set to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Geneva, New York; the Friends of the Children of Boston, Massachusetts; The Foundary of Cleveland, Ohio; and Youth Assisting Youth of Toronto, Ontario.
Team Seneca Navy consists of Anthony Carella from Vaughan, Ontario, Canada; Moritz Marchart from Stuttgart, Germany; Ryan Mulflur from Hingham, Mass.; and David Ranney from Cleveland, Ohio. The rowers first came together on the waters of Seneca Lake in Geneva, New York as part of the Hobart College rowing program.
The World’s Toughest Row is one of the most prestigious and grueling rowing races on the planet. From La Gomera in the Canary Islands to English Harbour in Antigua, the race covers 3,000 miles (4,828 km), challenging its competitors to row non-stop all while withstanding the harsh conditions of the Atlantic Ocean. To prepare for the challenge, competitors must undergo rigorous training, including physical conditioning, navigation, and survival skills as well as be equipped with all the necessary supplies, including food, water and safety equipment.
“We’re really excited about what these four young men are attempting and we’re even more excited that our Nav-Tracker and Kasper systems will allow their shoreside team to track their journey via position data in near real time via our geostationary tracking solution,” said Brian Kane, CEO and founder, GOST. “Once they set out, they will be completely on their own in challenging conditions. We support their efforts and hope that our solution gives them peace of mind. This is such an amazing undertaking, and we look forward to following along with their progress as they make their way across the Atlantic.”
“When it comes to a race like this preparation is paramount,” said Ranney. “We have been training our bodies for so long, but also ensuring we have the best equipment is just as important. Having the GOST Nav-Tracker let our team keep track of our progress gives us a sense of security. We wouldn’t leave shore without it.”
The GOST Nav-Tracker IDP supports a wide range of greatly enhanced speed, security and location-based machine-to-machine (M2M) services with their partner ORBCOMM. With 100x higher messaging capability, lower power consumption, highly reliable connectivity, global coverage with the exception of the poles and two-way satellite service, the Nav-Tracker IDP offers customers the most reliable way to track their vessels from anywhere in the world. In addition, the new Nav-Tracker incorporates an accelerometer into the antenna, allowing users to set a reporting interval when the boat is moving over a certain speed. This reporting interval begins when the boat is in use, even if the geofence system is disarmed.
Kasper is IP67/IPX9K-rated, shock and vibration resistant and HERO-certified to solidify its ability to handle any conditions on and off the water. Kasper features sensors to track for speed, heading, as well as a panic button. It also features a geo-fence protection mode, so that users can ensure that things stay where they’re supposed to as the units report location every 15 minutes. The lightweight solar-powered satellite tracker is important because weight and power considerations are central to supporting the team’s success and safety. In supporting GOST, ORBCOMM is providing the mission with dependable global satellite connectivity that will keep Team Seneca Navy’s vessel tracked in near real time to support their safety and strengthen their bid to conquer the 2025 World’s Toughest Row.

About Team Seneca Navy:
David Ranney (Cleveland, OH), Anthony Carella (Vughan, Ontario, Canada), Moritz Marchart (Stuttgart, Germany), and Ryan Mulfllur (Hingham, MA) met on the Hobart College rowing team. Their common interest evolved into the mission of Team Seneca Navy. To facilitate fundraising and the impact they could make in their communities, they each selected a hometown partner charity that had strong mission alignment with that of Team Seneca Navy.
