Traverse City, Mich. – Promethient, the Michigan-based provider of human-scaled climate control systems, announced today the European launch of its Thermavance™ seat cooling and heating technology for the marine industry. An industry first, Thermavance allows seats exposed to the elements to be cooled or heated by one graphene-based system that can be packaged within almost any seat design. In addition, Promethient has launched a cooling-only version of the Thermavance system at a lower price point for applications that don’t require heating functionality. Proven Thermavance technology is currently in use in North America in marine, powersports, golf cart and stadium seating applications.
Thermavance technology provides for efficient conductive cooling and heating of seating for both on-deck and in-cabin marine seating applications. Unlike automotive ventilated seats, Thermavance solutions do not blow air on the seat occupant. Therefore, seat perforations are not required. Thermavance technology lends itself to environments that are exposed to the elements, including sea water and salt spray. For heating, resistive wire technology is commonly used. While this approach is an effective conductive approach, it cannot provide cooling. Thermavance technology can provide both cooling and heating in a single system.
Promethient’s Thermavance system combines solid state heat pumping provided by a thermoelectric device, or a “Peltier Device,” with graphene. Graphene is a carbon-based material that exhibits high thermal conductivity that is greater than that of copper. Critically, graphene is flexible, lightweight and durable making it ideal for use in surfaces that must be flexible and able to conform to the human body.
“In the past several years we’ve seen excellent traction in North America with innovative manufacturers in the powersports, yacht design and luxury seat manufacturing segments, making it only natural for us to introduce this technology globally,” said Bill Myers, CEO of Promethient. “Our technology adds exceptional value for high-end manufacturers who want to take the thermal comfort and luxury they offer their customers to the next level. We’re very excited for this introduction to the discerning European market.”
To learn more about Thermavance, the technology will be on display at METSTRADE, booth 7.620, November 19-21, 2024.
